Community

Smith and Sons is proud to donate its facility yearly to the Knights of Columbus for their chicken BBQ and to the Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival to produce their pork sausage. Smith and Sons is also a proud supporter of the local surrounding county's 4-H programs. They show their support by being a sponsor for the Isabella, Midland, Gratiot and Clare county 4-H clubs. 

History

Smith and Sons is built on a foundation of meat processing companies. The company started around 1948 called Collin's Freezer Meats owned by Mable Collins and her sons Quentin and Hebert. It was bought out by Nickolus Zaleski in 1974 and was renamed Mount Pleasant Meats. In 1980 Charlie Anderson and Timothy Noll bought the company and ran it till 1986. Fred Straus purchased the company in 1986 and renamed it Straus Packing Inc. In 2000, the company was purchased by Ken Rau and Robert Riley. They named they company Double R Meats. In 2005 Russell Smith purchased the company which is now called Smith and Sons Meat Processing Inc.
